Combining my love of plants and hypertufa making. Take a look!
Hypertufa is a lightweight, porous, stone‑like material you can make at home, and people love making it because it’s cheaper, lighter, and more customizable than real stone.
Hypertufa is a man‑made substitute for natural tufa, a porous limestone traditionally used in alpine gardening. It’s created by mixing Portland cement with lightweight organic materials like peat moss, perlite, or vermiculite. The result is a textured, stone‑like material that’s strong yet much lighter than concrete.
Key traits:
- Porous (great for plant roots)
- Much lighter than concrete or terracotta
- Withstands harsh winters (down to −30 °C / −22 °F)
